The "Stealth Kitchen" Designer
I’m working on a high-end kitchen remodel where we want an appliance lift to come out of the island bench. The gear is pretty heavy (about 25kg), so I’m looking at the standard actuators. My main concern is the 'start-stop' motion—is it jerky? I don't want my expensive espresso machine vibrating its way off the platform. Do these actuators support a soft-start feature, or is it full power the second I hit the switch?

For lifting something as heavy as a 25 kg espresso machine, you’re on the right track looking at industrial linear actuators rather than light hobby parts. Most linear actuators themselves don’t have built-in “soft start/stop” — they run at whatever supply voltage you feed them, so hitting the switch instantly applies full power. That can feel a bit jerky with a sensitive load. The usual way to fix that is to put a simple motor controller or PWM speed controller between your switch and the actuator, which lets you ramp speed up and down for much smoother motion and less vibration for your pricey machine.
